When people purchase artwork, they often focus on the image itself. Yet the frame plays an equally important role in how that artwork is presented, protected, and enjoyed for years to come.

At First4Frames, we believe that exceptional artwork deserves exceptional framing. That’s why every frame we produce is handmade to order by skilled craftsmen, using traditional techniques, premium materials, and meticulous attention to detail.

Unlike many large online retailers who rely on mass production and stock frames, every frame we create is individually made for each customer’s order.

A Frame Made Especially For Your Artwork

The moment an order arrives in our workshop, the process begins.

Each print is carefully measured to ensure absolute accuracy. We don’t simply frame to a standard size and hope for the best. Every dimension is checked, every border allowance is calculated, and every component is prepared specifically for the artwork being framed.

This attention to detail ensures a perfect fit and a professional finish that enhances the artwork rather than distracting from it.

Combining Traditional Craftsmanship With Modern Technology

While craftsmanship remains at the heart of everything we do, we also embrace modern technology where it improves precision.

Using our computerised mount cutter, each mount is cut to exact specifications, ensuring crisp, clean edges and a flawless presentation. Every mount is then checked by hand before moving to the next stage of production.

Technology helps us achieve consistency, but it is the skill and experience of our craftsmen that guarantee the quality of the finished piece.

Building Frames The Traditional Way

The frame itself is where true craftsmanship comes into its own.

Every moulding is carefully cut using professional framing equipment to create precise 45-degree mitred corners. These cuts must be exact. Even the slightest variation can affect the appearance and strength of the finished frame.

Once cut, each section is joined, glued, and underpinned to create a strong and durable structure that will stand the test of time.

Unlike cheaper mass-produced alternatives, our frames are built with longevity in mind.

Premium 2mm Float Glass As Standard

One of the details that sets First4Frames apart is our commitment to quality glazing.

Every frame we produce is fitted with 2mm float glass as standard unless an alternative glazing option is requested.

Float glass provides excellent clarity and allows the artwork’s colours, details, and textures to be viewed exactly as intended. While some competitors use thinner or lower-quality materials to reduce costs, we believe the presentation of your artwork should never be compromised.

The result is a cleaner, sharper, more professional finish that truly enhances the artwork.

Protecting The Artwork

A beautiful frame is only part of the story.

We use conservation-grade pH-neutral hinging materials wherever appropriate to ensure artwork is mounted securely and responsibly. Every backing board, mount, and glazing component is cut precisely to size before assembly begins.

The aim is simple: to ensure that the artwork remains secure, protected, and beautifully presented for years to come.

Quality Control At Every Stage

One of the biggest differences between handcrafted framing and volume production is the level of inspection involved.

Before any frame leaves our workshop, it undergoes multiple quality checks.

We carefully inspect:

  • Mount alignment
  • Frame joins
  • Glass cleanliness
  • Artwork positioning
  • Surface finish
  • Overall presentation

Even the smallest dust particle can affect the finished result, which is why every frame is examined with care before final assembly.

Carefully Packaged For Safe Delivery

The final stage is often overlooked, but it is just as important as every step that comes before it.

Each completed frame is carefully wrapped and packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. From our workshop to your wall, we take every precaution to protect both the artwork and the frame during transit.

Why Customers Choose First4Frames

In today’s market, there are countless framing options available. Many are produced quickly and cheaply using standardised methods.

At First4Frames, we take a different approach.

Every frame is handmade to order.

Every frame is assembled by skilled craftsmen.

Every frame is individually inspected.

Every frame is fitted with quality 2mm float glass as standard.

The result is a level of quality that our customers immediately recognise when they unwrap their artwork.

We believe that framing should be more than simply enclosing a picture. It should enhance the artwork, protect it, and create a finished piece that can be proudly displayed for years to come.

That’s the difference that handcrafted framing makes.

That’s the First4Frames difference.
