Arie Vardi

Arie Vardi – Contemporary Scottish Landscape Painting

Arie Vardi is an accomplished landscape painter whose work reflects a profound connection to place, atmosphere, and memory. Born in Chile in 1956, he later studied Graphic Design in Jerusalem before joining a Kibbutz on the edge of the Negev Desert, where he first began experimenting with artistic practice. This early experience, combined with his Mediterranean heritage, informs the rich colour palette and expressive sensibility that define his paintings today.

Vardi’s work is deeply rooted in the Scottish landscape, particularly the rolling forms of Perthshire and the dramatic beauty of the West Coast. Beginning with sketches made on location and supporting photographs, he carries these impressions back to the studio, where he seeks to recreate the emotion and mood felt in the original moment. His compositions often focus on the elemental meeting points of land, sea, and sky, capturing the interplay of light and shifting weather with clarity and intensity.

Known for his vibrant use of colour and the rhythmic structure of his landscapes, Vardi’s works are held in numerous private and public collections.
