Description
DORNIE captures the serene beauty and timeless charm of a Scottish Highlands village — a place full of history, natural splendour and coastal calm. The composition evokes a sense of peaceful stillness, inviting the viewer to imagine crisp Highland air, the gentle lapping of water, and the soft glow of a setting sun. Through her stylised, naive-art aesthetic, Nikki Monaghan reduces the landscape to its essential shapes and colours: humble harbour-side buildings, a hint of distant hills, maybe a church spire or the suggestion of boats tied to wooden piers. Yet although simplified, the scene resonates with warmth and character, with just enough detail to evoke memories of village lanes, friendly cottages and quiet Highland mornings.
DORNIE refers to the real village of Dornie in the Scottish Highlands — a former fishing village long associated with scenic beauty and historic landmarks — a place that resonates with tranquility and heritage. By naming the artwork DORNIE, the print becomes not just a landscape, but a tribute to that special corner of Scotland, inviting any owner to connect emotionally with Dornie’s rich atmosphere. Dornie’s identity is woven into the painting; each time you look at DORNIE you are reminded of that unique Highlands village — whether you know it or are simply drawn to its imagined calm.
This limited-edition print (giclée, 30 cm x 24 cm / 12″ x 9½”) is drawn from an edition of 250, printed on fine-art 295 g/m² paper with pigmented inks. Each print is signed, titled and numbered — a testament both to the care taken by Nikki and the collectible status of each piece.
