Description
PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET. Framed Open Edition Fine Art Giclée Print by Nikki Monaghan.
PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET is a joyful interpretation of one of Scotland’s most beloved thoroughfares – and it appears as a shimmering, stylised urban scene in this print by Nikki Monaghan. Once again the artist returns to the landmark setting of Princes Street, capturing its silhouette and energy with vibrancy and emotion: PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET flows with coral, magenta and dusky pink skies, a slender street in the foreground leading toward the horizon, and abstract brush-marks evoking festive light-and-snow sparkle. The tall clock-tower with a spire, the dome-shaped roof and the slender pointed rooftops fill the skyline of Princes Street; Nikki’s interpretation transforms the familiar view into a shimmering memory of the place.
For the third time, PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET anchors its audience in the famed landscape of Edinburgh — and continues to invite the viewer into a whimsical imagining of Princes Street as a place of colour, light and memory.
Nikki Monaghan is a Scottish painter working from her studio in Falkirk, Central Scotland. She was born in Bathgate and raised in Falkirk, studying for a BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design at the Scottish College of Textiles. Nikki Monaghan Her work is characterised by layered applications of acrylics, inks, oil pastels and charcoal, building depth and texture while preserving a stylised, simplified depiction of the subject matter. First4Frames Gallery Central to her practice is an interest in landscapes, cities, harbours, towns and villages — seeing in them not merely architecture but emotional space. Nikki Monaghan In PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET she draws on memory, atmosphere and place to generate a scene that feels both recognizable and dream-like, offering the viewer a moment of connection, of nostalgic recollection, of joyful place-making.
Within the composition of PINK SPARKLE, PRINCES STREET you will notice a pale crescent moon set in the upper right of the dusky pink sky, surrounded by subtle flecks of white that suggest falling snow or glistening stars. The path or street in the foreground is lightly coloured, guiding the eye into the horizon and inviting a sense of movement. Multicoloured dots and expressive brushstrokes flank that path, infusing the scene with a festive shimmer — as though the place is lit, alive, and full of ambient expectation. Through this layering of texture, place and colour, Nikki Monaghan invites the viewer to revisit the magic of Princes Street, to find in its architecture and light a memory or a mood.
