Stephanie Rew  is a Scottish painter based in Edinburgh, UK. Her highly detailed figurative paintings are in collections across the UK, Europe and internationally.
Stephanie’s primary subject matter is the female figure. Always painted with a sense of ambiguity, faces half hidden with the human form often just emerging from the darkness. The kimono is a predominant motif to her work, and she has developed her style by combining drapery and pattern with the figure. Tone and form as well as strong light and colour is what inspires her, concentrating on the juxtaposition of tonality and texture whilst keeping a private, reflective mood with the work.

Stephanie has been heavily influenced by the Baroque style of oil painting and utilises a combination of Old Master’s techniques with her own. Her use of glazes is important to the finished article – creating an inner glow to her work. Caravaggios’ trademark use of chiaroscuro and strong colour created by glazing techniques has inspired her work for the last decade.

Stephanie won the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Bursary soon after graduating and since then has had numerous exhibitions in Glasgow, London and Paris.

Stephanie has recently curated the first Women Painting Women Exhibition in the UK as part of the WPW (R)evolution movement in 2013.
