Wayfaring by Jill McIntosh has a wonderfully open quality, with a wide sky pressing across the composition above low land, water and fine reed-like marks in the foreground. The structure is simple, but the painting does not feel static. Instead, Wayfaring suggests movement through the landscape, whether by tide, wind or a passing human presence just beyond the scene. Jill McIntosh’s practice is shaped by her long engagement with Scottish weather and shoreline environments, and Wayfaring shows that influence in a quieter register.
