Description

Wayfaring by Jill McIntosh has a wonderfully open quality, with a wide sky pressing across the composition above low land, water and fine reed-like marks in the foreground. The structure is simple, but the painting does not feel static. Instead, Wayfaring suggests movement through the landscape, whether by tide, wind or a passing human presence just beyond the scene. The pale blues and warmer earth tones are balanced carefully, making the work feel fresh, grounded and very accessible.

Jill McIntosh’s practice is shaped by her long engagement with Scottish weather and shoreline environments, and Wayfaring shows that influence in a quieter register. Her knife technique creates enough texture to keep the foreground lively, while the broad painted sky gives the image scale and breathing room. As with many of her weatherscapes, the interest lies less in exact description and more in the atmosphere of the place. Wayfaring therefore offers the viewer both a landscape and a mood.

Wayfaring would suit a hallway, landing, home office or living room where you want artwork that feels light, expansive and connected to the Scottish coast. First 4 Frames can frame Wayfaring in a range of professional finishes to complement either contemporary or more traditional interiors. Float glass is included as standard.
